SALARY & BENEFITS

Our residents are associated with the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR), the largest union of house staff officers nationwide. Many programs and hospitals do not offer associations to residency unions, but this is a major benefit for the well-being and security of residents. We feel fortunate to have such strong representation. See below for salary and benefit details.

NYP Brooklyn Methodist offers one of the highest resident salaries nationwide.
Effective 11/1/2023:

PGY1- $80,300      PGY2- $87,331        PGY3- $95,342

Effective 11/1/2024:
PGY1- $84,315
     PGY2- $91,698     PGY3- $100,109

In addition, a stipend of $2,000 per year is allotted to all residents to use towards books, technology, or other educationally related purchases. During PGY-3 year, attendance to the National ACEP Scientific Assembly is fully funded for all residents by the Department.

403B CONTRIBUTIONS
Many excellent traditional and Roth 403b plans are available through Prudential. Residents can contribute up to $19,500 per year towards retirement.

VACATION
All residents receive 4 weeks of vacation per year. As a PGY-1, you receive two two-week blocks of vacation; PGY-2s and PGY-3s receive one two-week block of vacation and two one-week blocks of vacation.

MEALS
$2,000 is placed on ID cards at the start of each year, for use at the hospital cafeteria, or at LaBagel Delight or 7th Avenue Diner (located across the street from the hospital). In addition, coffee, tea, juice, and snacks are available in the resident lounge throughout all hours of the day.

TRANSPORTATION
WageWorks membership is available to all residents, which enables tax-free salary contributions towards transportation. This can be used for Subway passes, rental cars, Citibike memberships, and even buses, trains, or flights. Parking is available in an underground structure, and passes are awarded on a lottery basis.

HOUSING
Incoming Interns and Residents who are interested in renting an apartment from the hospital are given the opportunity through a lottery system. This apartment building is located across the street from the hospital and offers discounted rent prices.

SCRUBS AND WHITE COATS
All residents receive five pairs of black NYP embroidered scrubs, and one NYP embroidered white coat. There are locker rooms for changing in the department staff lounge.

Our health care coverage is through Empire BlueCross BlueShield. Coverage applies to residents as well as spouses and children. All major medical services are covered by the plan-up to 30 outpatient visits/year, 120 inpatient days/year, and all necessary testing and treatment. The plan also includes necessary chiropractic care at a reimbursement rate of 80%, pregnancy/postnatal care at 100%, and outpatient psychiatric care up to $2,000 per person.
